Something is stirring in the Sussex Arts scene. A quiet revolution: Shoreham based Laura Ward & The Risen Road perform a set of original roots tunes plus new and vivid interpretations of songs from the traditional canon.
Drawing on nu-folk, bluegrass, Irish and contemporary sources, Laura Ward’s music celebrates and reinvents the legacy of the troubadour. Laura’s powerful, haunting vocals are matched with the harmonies of fellow Shoreham resident, singer-songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Matt Szul. Kansas born Scott Smith provides lush layers of silky lap-steel guitar and evocative banjo. Mervyn Wallis’s fiddle dances lightly over the tunes, while Ollie Clarke and Adam Ronchetti provide the solid bedrock of bass and percussion respectively. The Risen Road promise an afternoon of collaborative brilliance spanning many genres.
Laura and Adam’s “Hickory Signals” will open the afternoon with a selection of their own original and traditional tunes.
